In FOCUS: Nature Translated
An exhibition of photographs by Les Femmes Photales at Reeves-Reed Arboretum
April 14 through May 21
Summit, NJ: Iconic photojournalist and artist Diane Arbus defined a photograph as "a secret of a secret." She couldn't have been more correct if she were describing the works of eight extraordinary women photographers now showing at Reeves-Reed Arboretum's exhibit, In FOCUS: Nature Translated.
Les Femmes Photales, as this informal and diverse group of artists is known, consists of Gina Bellando, Patricia Bender, Linda de Castro, Pam Greene, Linda Kimler, Jody Pfeiffer, Judith Snyder, and Sue Zwick. While in some quarters photography has a long established reputation for literalism, when we are presented with the works in this exhibition, we see eight unique and personal points of view, each telling their own stories (of nature translated) through variations in perspective, texture, patterns, shades of grey, and color. The result is at once original, romantic, lyrical, organic, and abstract.
In FOCUS: Nature Translated opens to the general public April 14, as part of the Daffodil Day Celebration at Reeves-Reed Arboretum, and runs through May 21. All works are for sale and the artists have generously agreed to donate 20% of every sale to the Arboretum.
