This year, Reeves-Reed Arboretum is offering internships to students and trainees in the fields of horticulture, landscape design, botany, or ecological studies. Successful candidates will receive a small stipend. We are offering internships in the following areas:
1. Support in researching the plantings and sourcing the material for a series of period gardens. We could also use skilled help in maintaining the current display gardens, which could be viewed as an adjunct activity to the more academic work.
2. Collections management. We are in the process of transferring our collection database from the proprietary BG Base package to a more user-friendly Filemaker app, and need assistance in every aspect of this project. We are also undertaking a related mapping project that will update and modernize our collection location scheme – students with interest or skills in GIS are encouraged to apply. There is also the possibility of hands-on work in updating our labels.
3. Finally, we are working on a very exciting project that will enable us – and our visitors – to experience the wooded portion of our property more directly. To this end, we really need to continue and expand various programs to remove invasives and exotics, to devise a replanting scheme that restores diversity and interest to the woodland, and to plan for the new use patterns that we expect to see.
If you're a student at an accredited institution of higher learning, or are participating in a horticulture certification program at a public garden, you are encouraged to apply by sending a statement of interest and a brief cover letter to:
Marc Montefusco at firstname.lastname@example.org. No phone calls please.
