From time immemorial humans have observed the Winter Solstice as a special day on the calendar; the day when the hemispheric pole is at its further point from the Sun. Cultures around the world mark this auspicious ‘turning towards the light’ with feast and celebration, and in quiet reflection. The Winter Solstice will occur on December 21st as the Sun, having reached its further point from us, begins its long journey back providing us with a little more of its precious light each day.
