Louis Bauer - Nature into Art, The Gardens of Wave Hill (onsite): Thursday, February 24

Thursday, February 24 from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm

As we launch our Notable Garden Speaker series for 2022, the Arboretum is pleased to welcome the recently retired Director of Horticulture of Wave Hill, Louis Bauer.

Louis Bauer began his work at Wave Hill in the Bronx, NY as a gardener in 1994. Ten years later he was whisked away to renovate Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills. He came back to Wave Hill as its third director  of horticulture, just before the institution marked its 50th year in 2014. This presented an upfront opportunity to look back at how Wave Hill evolved and how it is one of New York City’s pre-eminent cultural institutions.

To chronicle the past and present, a book arose entitled Nature Into Art: The Gardens of Wave Hill by Tom Christopher. It aligns itself with the intention of the first gardeners, offering much horticultural advice and inspiring curiosity about plants and plantings at an intimate scale.

Join us for an evening with Louis Bauer as he regales us with stories drawn from his double tenures and ultimately at the horticultural helm of this world-renowned public garden. We’re certain that his presentation will inspire a visit to Wave Hill and inspire your own garden.

Light refreshments will be served.

This program will also be held virtually. Please click here to register for the virtual lecture.
