Scents and Sense-Ability
One of the reasons I love public horticulture is the opportunity for new experiences. This past Saturday afforded me just that. We had a booking for a private tour for a group with visual impairments. I did my best to prepare for this unusual engagement, but in the end I was left surprised and pleased while wholly out of my depth. They taught me that bright colors are best. To say "look at your 12 o'clock" instead of "look ahead" .
MLK Day Program
On MLK Day, we once again participated in the amazing array of events offered by Shaping Summit Together. A dedicated group of volunteers worked outside "Clearing the Way for Spring" with our Horticulture Department, while in the Education Center, volunteers made nature-inspired Valentine's Day cards from recycled materials. 'Tis the Season to Thank You!
Months of hard work came full circle in December with our annual Holiday House Tour - a fundraising event that would not be possible without an army of amazing volunteers. This annual Arboretum tradition is one of the most eagerly anticipated holiday events in Summit, New Jersey and you may not realize it, but it utilizes the time, talents, and hard work of over one hundred volunteers!
