Reeves-Reed Arboretum seeks a part-time Education Intern to work with a group of developmentally disabled young adults as part of its Eco-Corps program. Eco-Corps is a program that incorporates a combination of environmental lessons and hands-on learning. Participants will learn about horticulture topics including invasive plants, composting and plant care and have the opportunity to clear and plant an area in our woodlands.
Applicant will work with Arboretum staff assisting participants with the environmental lessons as well as working alongside them removing invasive plants, preparing the soil and planting. Prior experience working with teens and adults with developmental disabilities is preferred but not necessary. Candidate must also have an interest in nature and the environment. No financial compensation is offered for this position; Reeves-Reed Arboretum is pleased to work with the intern’s educational institution to provide documentation of internship status for academic credit.
The internship runs July 1 through July 19 with an additional week in August. The hours are 9:00 am-2:00 pm daily. Interested individuals should contact Jackie Kondel, Director of Children’s Education at firstname.lastname@example.org.
