The NY Times has called the concerts of James Nyoraku Schlefer "melodically inventive, richly textured, and unexpectedly groovy." Nyoraku, who occupies a special place creating music that bridges Western and Japanese styles, will play the traditional shakuhachi (bamboo flute). Together with the ancient Japanese koto, this evening's event will also feature a special garden walk highlighting Arboretum plants native to Asia and Japan.
