Rich
in volunteer opportunities, the Reeves-Reed Arboretum looks forward to innovative
ideas, suggestions, and the refreshing spirit that accompanies a
willingness to serve. Seasonal as well as year round projects, such as
chipping the trails, are available.
We welcome newcomers to the area as well as those
just discovering the Reeves-Reed, experienced gardeners and those
willing to learn. Students fulfilling community service
hours, retirees, and clubs as well as friends, all are welcome. We also have some opportunities for
children 16+ and for Eagle Scout projects.
Contact: Office
Manager (908) 273-8787 Ext. 11 to find out more about volunteering either singularly or with a
group. Or

Grounds
|
You

either camaraderie or quiet moments on your own, and learning

Office
|
The
office staff welcomes volunteers to assist with a great variety
of projects.
|
|
You
can share your computer-entry skills, typing, record keeping and
more as you work with staff members during any part of office
hours, Monday-Friday, 9 am to 3 pm. Don't forget to bring
your lunch and relax with everyone who dines on the sun porch
at noon.
|
Education
|
We
rely strongly on our crew of trained docent guides to make our
elementary school programs, such as Hands
to Nature, so
special.
|
|
When children are able to work in smaller groups,
the outcome is wonderful. A love of children and the
outdoors is all you need to join our committed group of docent
guides. Training
is usually conducted in the fall and spring. Docent
hours: 2-3 hours a week for a 10 week period, spring and fall. Rediscover
the outdoors though the eyes of a child!

|
Special
Events
|
Fund-raisers
are vital, since the City of Summit provides no financing to the
Arboretum. Fund raisers are totally run by volunteers.
|
|
Help is needed for fund
raising and special
events such as the Holiday House Tour. You can be a leader, join the
planning committees or participate on the day of the
activity. Time commitment varies.

Garden Gift
Shop
|
If
you like working with the public, The
Garden Gift Shop needs you as a sales assistant.
|
|
Flexible
shifts are
available, Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm. The Garden Gift Shop can be reached at
(908) 277-1190.
|
|
Property Maintenance
|
Rather
toil than till? You can be a VIP behind the scenes.
|
|
Since the Arboretum
has no regular custodian, those who are handy at repairing a delinquent
doorknob, changing ceiling and chandelier blacked-out bulbs, hanging
plaques, working with plumbers and the like are much appreciated.
Granted the results are not as glorious as gardening, but joining other
volunteers who keep Wisner House smoothly operating contributes to
public enjoyment.

Volunteers are always needed to take shots of the lovely gardens
throughout the year. We also need shots of volunteers at
work on the grounds, at children's education programs and during
special events.
|
And more
|
Perhaps you are happiest when you are on-the-go.
|
|
Team up to deliver our
program and events listings, fliers or posters to libraries, shops in
your local area and the like. When one person drives and the other drops
off materials, elusive parking spaces no longer pose a problem.
|
|
Teenage
|
Children 16 years old who have
a strong interest in
gardening and the out-of-doors are needed to assist with Arboretum grounds
projects and with our Monarch Butterfly program during the summer months.
