The Clearing on the Hill:
The Story of the Reeves-Reed Arboretum
by Betty McAndrews

Reeves-Reed Arboretum is proud to announce the publication of The Clearing on the Hill: The Story of the Reeves-Reed Arboretum by Betty McAndrews.  The book gives a recorded history of the property, house and gardens at Reeves-Reed from a one time country estate to a historic national site.  The property was owned by three families: John Hornor Wisner and his wife, Isabella Reed Wisner, 1889-1916; Richard Early Reeves and his wife, Susie Graham Reeves, 1916-1968; and Charles L. Reed, Jr. and his wife, Ann Reeves-Reed (niece of Susie Graham Reeves), 1968-1974.

McAndrews has been compiling information for the book for 5 years.  The 325 page, hardcover history contains 230 spectacular color and black & white vintage photos as well as personal glimpses of what life was like when the property was privately owned.

The Reeves-Reed Arboretum is a National and State Historic Site with gardens designed by leading landscape architects of the day:   Calvert Vaux (partner of Frederick Law Olmsted) c. 1889, Ellen Biddle Shipman 1924, and Carl F. Pilat 1924-1925.

All sales proceeds benefit Reeves-Reed educational programs.

Funding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of Cultural Affairs in the Department of State, through a grant administered by the Union County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.

The price of The Clearing on the Hill is $35.00.  To purchase your copy, contact the Arboretum office.
